Our story

The Probability of Us

Turns out, this story started in Lucknow, years before either of them knew it. Shraddha went to school at La Martiniere Girls' College from 2004 to 2010, before moving back to Kathmandu. Rishabh took the reverse route: moving from Kathmandu to Lucknow a little later, where he attended Army Public School from 2011 to 2013. Their paths never crossed, different years, different chapters, same two cities quietly keeping their story on file.

They finally met in 2015, hundreds of kilometres from where it all started, though it took an entire pandemic for “just friends” to quietly upgrade itself. How that happened is still classified.

Ten years later, Rishabh decided he wasn't leaving anything to chance: in 2025, he solved an actual equation to convince Shraddha that marrying him was an excellent idea. She said yes anyway, to him, or to the math, we may never know. And somehow, it felt only right that a story which began, unknowingly, in Lucknow, would end up bringing everyone back there to celebrate.

The celebrations

A few days of festivities

February 15

1:00 PM

Haldi & Mehendi

Henna, turmeric, and the first of many family dance-offs.

Wear: Yellows, greens, or any bright colour you like, in fabrics you don't mind staining: turmeric doesn't wash out easily!

7:30 PM

Sangeet

An evening of performances, rehearsed and very much not.

Wear: Indo-western & party wear: sequins, shimmer, and anything easy to dance in.

February 16

12:00 PM

Janti / Baraat

The groom's procession arrives in style, drums and all.

Wear: Vibrant traditional wear & comfortable footwear: you'll be dancing in the procession!

4:00 PM onwards

Wedding Ceremony

Traditional rites under the mandap, followed by blessings.

Wear: Formal traditional attire in rich jewel tones: sarees, lehengas, sherwanis & suits. Please avoid white & black.

*You won't go hungry: food will be served at each of these celebrations.

A quick travel guide, especially for those of you joining us from outside India. Welcome, and thank you for coming so far!

Venue

All of the celebrations — Haldi, Sangeet, Baraat, and the wedding itself — take place at Saraca Hotel, Mall Avenue, Lucknow.

Getting there

  • By air (preferred): some airlines may offer direct international flights into Lucknow (LKO). If your route has a layover in Delhi (DEL) instead, simply take a short domestic flight onward to Lucknow: it's about 1 hour, with 10+ flights daily. The airport is roughly 30–40 minutes from the hotel.
  • By train from Delhi: the Vande Bharat Express covers Delhi–Lucknow in about 6.5 hours.
  • By road from Delhi: around 7–8 hours via the Agra–Lucknow Expressway, if you'd rather drive or hire a car.

Accommodation

Saraca Hotel is a beautiful but small property (just a handful of rooms!), so we've kept these for family. Everyone else, we kindly ask you to book your own stay, and Lucknow has some wonderful options just a short drive away: Taj Palace, Taj Mahal Lucknow, Hyatt, Hilton, Renaissance Lucknow, and Fairfield by Marriott Lucknow. If you'd like more space or a longer stay, Airbnbs are plentiful around Hazratganj and Gomti Nagar.

Uber works well all across Lucknow and is very reasonably priced, so getting between your hotel and the venue is easy.

Food & drink

In keeping with family tradition, this will be a vegetarian, alcohol-free celebration. Thank you for celebrating with us in that spirit.

That said, if a mysterious flask happens to appear under a table at some point during the Sangeet, we make no promises about what's in it… and we definitely didn't see anything.

Expect pleasantly mild, sunny days with highs around 24–27°C, cooling down to 10–14°C in the mornings and evenings.

Light layers work well: comfortable daytime wear, plus a light jacket or shawl for cooler mornings and evenings.

  • Visa: most nationalities can apply for an India e-Visa online. Apply at least a couple of weeks ahead to be safe, and double-check your specific country's requirements.
  • Passport: should be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
  • Vaccines: nothing is mandatory for most travellers, but it's worth checking routine travel vaccinations with your doctor or a travel clinic before you go.
  • Travel insurance: always a good idea for international trips.
  • Money: the local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). Cards are widely accepted at hotels; it's handy to carry some cash for local markets and travel.

The City of Nawabs is worth exploring beyond the wedding. A few highlights, most within easy reach of the hotel:

  • Bara Imambara & the Bhool Bhulaiyaa maze: a stunning 18th-century marvel with a labyrinth of passages.
  • Rumi Darwaza: an iconic Mughal-era gateway, especially beautiful lit up at night.
  • Chota Imambara: ornate chandeliers and mirror-work inside a striking mausoleum.
  • Hazratganj: Lucknow's classic shopping street, great for chikankari embroidery and local finds.
  • British Residency: atmospheric ruins with a layered history, and a peaceful spot to walk around.
  • Lucknow is also famous for its Awadhi cuisine: melt-in-your-mouth galouti kebabs, Lucknowi biryani, kakori kebabs, kulcha-nihari, and sheermal (a saffron flatbread). If you'd like to explore the city's food scene beyond our vegetarian celebration, it's worth asking your hotel concierge for recommendations.
